About this event
Through playground games and classic clown provocations you will learn to connect with and listen to your scene partners, yourself, and your audience. These exercises provide a great jump off point to devise your own original sketches, which we get to perform for our families and friends at the end of term! But it's not all fun and games (actually it is but...) along the way you will also pick up some stage craft - things like which way to face (usually towards the audience...), how to throw focus (the audience can't be looking at you *all the time*), and how loud to speak (loud enough so that everyone can hear you). Debbie Zukerman is a practicing performing artist and teaches the class through the joyful lens of clowning. Before moving to Melbourne and starting Bananadrama Debbie was co-artistic director of clown company Choo Choo Troupe, and worked regularly with improv troupe Post Its, drag comedy troupe Cleo and the Kweens and sketch company The Kvetch Set Collective. Debbie has performed around Australia and appeared periodically in film, TV, and despite her socialist tendencies, ads for Mega-Corp and it’s subsidiaries. As a younger and more serious person, Debbie studied many performance styles including clown at Ecole Philippe Gaulier (Paris) and Meisner at Ward Studio (NYC).
