Little Performers | Ages 5-7
About this event
Do you know someone who loves to play? Great, this class is for them! We will put on red noses and turn playground games into performances, all the while learning how to connect and listen to our scene partners, ourselves, and our audience. Along the way we will also learn some stage craft - things like which way to face (usually towards the audience...), how to throw focus (the audience can't be looking at you *all the time*), and how loud to speak (probably loud enough so that everyone can hear you). We start with games because games are fun, and you better be having fun on stage or your audience will be just as bored as you are. Games are also a great jump off point to devise original sketches, which we get to perform for our families and friends at the end of term! Debbie Zukerman is a practicing performing artist and teaches the class through the joyful lens of clowning. Before moving to Melbourne and starting Bananadrama she was co-artistic director of clown company Choo Choo Troupe, and worked regularly with improv troupe Post Its, drag comedy troupe Cleo and the Kweens and sketch company The Kvetch Set Collective. Debbie has performed around Australia and appeared periodically in film, TV, and despite her socialist tendencies, ads for Mega-Corp and it’s subsidiaries. As a younger and more serious person, Debbie studied many performance styles including clown at Ecole Philippe Gaulier (Paris) and Meisner at Ward Studio (NYC).
