Some of the best homeschool support doesn't come from a curriculum guide or a Facebook group, it comes from someone talking in your ear while you're folding laundry, driving to a class, or getting dinner started. Podcasts are a strange little pocket of homeschool community like that, free, always available, and often hosted by people who've been doing this for decades and genuinely want to help.
Here are seven worth adding to your feed, along with a few episodes to start with rather than just diving in at episode one and hoping for the best.
1. Read-Aloud Revival with Sarah Mackenzie
If you only add one podcast from this list, this is probably the one. Sarah Mackenzie has been running Read-Aloud Revival for years now, well over 300 episodes deep, and it holds up as one of the most genuinely reassuring voices in homeschooling. The show centres on reading aloud and building a book-rich home, but it wanders naturally into homeschool mindset, creativity, and keeping relationships at the centre of the whole thing rather than the checklist.
Episodes to start with:
- RAR #00: Welcome to the Read-Aloud Revival, the very first episode, a genuinely good place to start
- RAR #198: Which Curriculum Should I Use?, for anyone stuck in decision paralysis
- RAR #216: How to Teach from Rest
- Best of RAR: Why Read Aloud to Kids Who Can Read Themselves, for the "but they can already read" question every parent eventually asks
2. Homeschool Better Together with Laney Homan
This show has been through a bit of a transition, it's currently hosted by Laney Homan, under new ownership by Emily Brown as of earlier this year, so if you've heard it referenced with a different host previously, that's why. The focus is still exactly what you'd want: stopping the endless "am I doing enough" spiral and building a homeschool rhythm that actually fits your family, with practical tips and real homeschool stories delivered in a way that suits listening while folding laundry or running errands.
Episodes to start with:
- Why Consistency Matters More Than You Think, for anyone stuck in a start-strong-fizzle-fast cycle
- The Litany of "Not Enough" and How to Escape It, a genuinely useful look at the negative thought spirals that creep in on hard homeschool days
3. The Arts of Language Podcast
Hosted by Andrew Pudewa, founder of the Institute for Excellence in Writing, alongside Julie Walker, this one is squarely for anyone thinking hard about how to teach reading, writing and communication well. It's more focused than some of the broader homeschool-lifestyle shows on this list, genuinely useful if language arts is the piece of your homeschool you're least confident about.
Episodes to start with:
- Episode 448: Degree Free with Hannah Maruyama, a good one for families with high schoolers weighing up the value of a traditional degree
- The episode where Andrew talks through the origins of the Structure and Style methodology and its roots in the Suzuki Method
- The audio talk From Copywork to Composition, a solid grounding in how writing skills actually build over time
4. The New Mason Jar with Cindy Rollins
Worth knowing upfront: this show was previously known simply as "The Mason Jar," and has since relaunched as "The New Mason Jar with Cindy Rollins," now with co-host Dawn Duran. If you go looking for the original title you may find an older, inactive feed, this is the current, actively updated version. It's a lovely, warm deep-dive into Charlotte Mason's philosophy applied to real, modern homeschool life, nature study, narration, literature and gentle learning, all explored through conversations with seasoned homeschool mums.
Episodes to start with:
- S1E5: Have a Happier Homeschool with Lynn Bruce, a founding member of AmblesideOnline
- The episode on nature study with Sheila Carroll, a good entry point if you're new to the idea of nature study as a core subject rather than an occasional extra
5. Brave Writer with Julie Bogart and Melissa Wiley
If writing is the subject causing the most tears in your homeschool, this is the podcast for you. Julie Bogart built Brave Writer around the idea that writing should be a form of genuine self-expression rather than a source of dread, and the show, co-hosted with Melissa Wiley, digs into how to get there, especially with reluctant or anxious writers.
Episodes to start with:
- 350. Pro Tips for Fabulous Field Trips, packed with practical ideas for turning outings into hands-on learning
- 346/347. ADHD and Homeschooling Part 1 and 2, a genuinely honest two-part look at neurodivergence in both kids and parents
- 352. Handwriting: Why, When, and How to Teach It, useful if you're wondering whether handwriting still matters in a digital age
6. The Life Without School Podcast with Stark Raving Dad
Hosted by Issy, known online as Stark Raving Dad, a home educating father of four, this show leans research-backed and refreshingly direct. It covers homeschooling and unschooling more broadly, tech and screen time, how AI might reshape the working world your kids are growing into, and the everyday self-doubt that comes with choosing a life without school.
Episodes to start with:
- The episode telling the story of his unschooled 9-year-old daughter choosing to try a classroom for the first time, and what that experience was actually like
- The episode on finding balance with screens and tech, a genuinely calm, non-judgemental take on a topic that usually generates more heat than light
- The episode on AI and the future of work, worth a listen if you've been wondering how to prepare kids for a job market that looks nothing like the one we grew up with
7. Mums Who Question with Jasmin Templin and Valentina Okur
Worth a quick note upfront: this one isn't a homeschool podcast specifically, it's a general parenting show covering health, low-tox living and honest conversations between two mums who ask "why?" rather than just accepting conventional advice. But a lot of that overlaps naturally with homeschool life, questioning the default path is essentially the whole premise of homeschooling too, so it's a genuinely good listen even outside a strictly homeschool context. It's also a brand new show, only a handful of episodes in as of writing, so there's an easy on-ramp if you want to start from the very beginning.
Episodes to start with:
- #006 Tantrums, Boundaries & Getting Your Kids to Listen with Izzy from Calmer Parenting, genuinely practical for the everyday moments that make parenting (and homeschooling) hard
Podcasts are one of those resources that reward a bit of curating rather than subscribing to everything at once. Pick one or two that speak to whatever's actually on your mind this term, morning routines, writing struggles, that nagging socialisation worry, and let the rest wait for when you need them.
